The Sketchbook Project: Saying Goodbye

"This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend, the end...
I'll never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be, so limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand"
-The Doors, "The End"

I said goodbye to my sketchbook this week and sent it off to Brooklyn, New York to go on a tour across America with 28,835 other sketchbooks for The Sketchbook Project. I completed my goal of doodling for at least five minutes every day in November 2010, so for me, it was a success even though it's not as extravagant as sketchbooks by Marjolein, Ciera, AVey or Jessica.

It's a plain and simple book, just black and white with bits of gray and tan. I had hoped to spend more time on it to add pops of color, but with me juggling several projects at once, my sketchbook project was pushed down to the bottom of my to do list several times and I rushed to create the cover and introduction pages.

I added the little poem from my first Sketchbook Project blog entry at the beginning of the book:

If I decide to sign up for this project again, I plan to take more time experimenting and also attempt to rebind the book with thicker pages. Even though my sketchbook will never be in my home again, I hope to one day visit it when it's nestled in the walls of the The Brooklyn Art Library...where it will stay forever.

Thanks for stopping by Snap.Scrap.Blog.Tweet to say goodbye to my sketchbook! If you didn't get a chance to look at all of my doodles, see them HERE or check out my Art House Coop page where you can see highlights from my sketchbook.

The Sketchbook Project: 30 Days & 30 Sketches

One month, 30 days and 30 sketches...I started The Sketchbook Project on the first of November and finished my 30th sketch yesterday. Now, all I need to do is create a cover, introduction pages and possibly add a few more sketches before I send it off for a 2011 tour.

Take a look at my latest sketches (you'll see I had the holidays on my mind with a couple of them):

The Sketchbook Project: In 5 Minutes...

In 5 minutes...
on each day in November
a girl will draw again.

In 5 minutes...
on each day in November
a blank page will be no longer.

In 5 minutes...
on each day in November
my mind's eye will see you.

In 5 minutes...
on each day in November
a wall will slowly crumble.

And then...
you will shine.

On November 1, 2010, I started The Sketchbook Project. A few months ago, I purchased a little moleskine from Art House in order to be part of The Sketchbook Project Tour: 2011. Read all about it HERE.

This little sketchbook quietly sat on a bookshelf just waiting for me to open it up and pour creativity all over its pages...and it waited...and it waited.

Finally, after I finished Layout a Day, it was time to begin. I must tell you that it's been a long time since I doodled on a blank page. As a child and into early adulthood, this was what I did. Then life took over and now there's this wall I'm trying to break down, kind of like writer's block...would this be drawer's block...artist's block....doodler's block???

So, here I am-sharing with you. Each Wednesday, I plan to add the week's sketches to my blog. My goal is to give myself to a blank page for at least five minutes a day during the month of November with hopes of breaking down that doodler's block of a wall.

Here are my first nine sketches:

This sketchbook will eventually tour America and then have a final resting place at The Brooklyn Art Library in a permanent sketchbook collection. (How cool is that?!?)
