Scrapbooking Your Life in Twenty Pages

This is my 100th blog post. I started my blog eleven months ago (January 2010) and can't believe I finally made it this far. I never expected 100 posts in less than a year and I'm proud of this accomplishment. Thank you so much for the lovely comments and support this year. I appreciate all of you!

Over the past eleven months, my blog has grown and changed, continually evolving along with me. I've scrapbooked and crafted more this year than I have in the past due to all the fantastic, inspiring people I've "met" on Twitter (and all the others who I've met by some sort of connection to Twitter). 

I remember the early days of reading blogs (the first several months of this year) and wanting to be part of a design team. Now, I feel lucky to participate on three teams:

A Simple Stories Creation: 3 years of Life Documented 2007-2009

Welcome to Scrappin' Memories 4U and the MemoryWorks Simple Stories Blog Hop! Hope you are enjoying the creations by MemoryWorks Consultants and if this is your first stop on the hop, prepare to be inspired by the Simple Stories Life Documented Collection.

Simple Stories is exclusive to MemoryWorks and gives scrapbookers the opportunity to document a year of life (or more) easily and guilt-free. Many of us are busy with family, jobs, housework and tend to put scrapbooking on the back-burner. I am guilty of this, but have been nourishing my hobby as I've been using Simple Stories (now housework has been on the back-burner and I haven't seen the bottom of my kitchen sink in about a week).

The scrapbook I have been working on includes three hectic years of my life: 2007-2009. My oldest daughter started school, my youngest daughter was born and I've been trying to keep up with life ever since. My above scrapbook layout is the first page of my Simple Stories scrapbook and here is how I did it:

I selected a sheet of cardstock from Simple Stories.

Then I cut out "Life Documented" from the cover of the Simple Stories kit.

Using a piece of paper, I drew a large 3, cut it out and chose my photos.

I created a stencil by taping the 3 with photos and
tissue paper to my window (you can also use a light box).

After attaching the tissue paper to cardstock, I used a craft knife and straight-edged ruler to make a frame for the photos.

I matted the 3 with Prism cardstock, tore the edges of another
sheet of Simple Stories cardstock to border the layout,
added text and embellishments with Simple Stories stickers.

How-to scrapbook with MemoryWorks Simple Stories scrapbooking kit

After waiting many months for MemoryWorks to launch Simple Stories, the day came (1-15-10) and I ordered the Life Documented Collection, along with a We R Memory Keepers hybrid album, cardstock and additional page protectors. The package arrived a couple weeks later, giving me a chance to finally play around with the kit.





I read over the kit directions, cut apart the double-sided elements and then let my creative ideas simmer for a bit.



Three years of family photographs have been hiding in albums, with many screaming to get out. I still needed to decide which year to use in my Simple Stories scrapbook. In the past, I documented each year in a scrapbook, but stopped after finishing 2006. A severe catch-up was in order. Flipping through the photo albums, I noticed that some months didn't have pictures in certain years, while other years did. Ding! Ding! I can see the light! Combine all three years into one scrapbook. Yay! Weight lifted off my shoulders. 2010 may be the year where I am completely caught up with my scrapbooking. Yes, that is my goal and it is within reach all because of Simple Stories. Thank you MemoryWorks!

Now that I decided to use photos from 2007-2009, I chose an average of 10-12 photos per month. As of right now, January only has seven, but April has 25!! Playing with the photos and elements, sticking them in the various sizes of pockets, I realized that I must think outside the box. Vertical photos + horizontal page pockets = photos cut in half.





No problem. Good solution. Moving on to adding embellishments.
