Blog Hop with Glue Dots & Whimsy Stamps


Welcome to one of the many stops of the Glue Dots & Whimsy Stamps Blog Hop! It's a week full of inspiration, prizes and fun! Our teams are sharing beautiful projects featuring products from both companies. There are prizes hidden along the hop including a grand prize valued at $100!

WISH UPON A STAR CARD

Time: 1 hour
Level: Beginner
Size: 4 ¼ x 5 ½ inches

Beginner stamper? No problem! Read on to find out how to create a card using a Whimsy Stamps set, Glue Dots, black ink and a splash of color.


Materials:
4 ¼ x 5 ½” Corrugated card
Cardstock (white, orange)
Crepe paper ribbon (turquoise)
Baker's twine (orange/white)
Small star gems(turquoise)
1 ½” Wood star

Tools:
Glue Dots® Glue Lines
Pop Up Glue Dots®
Micro Glue Dots®
Ultra Thin Glue Dots®
Whimsy Stamps Wish Upon a Star stamp set
StazOn ink (black)
Folk Art dye (marmalade lady)
Paper trimmer
Paint brush

Directions:

1. Use black ink to stamp the quote and star design onto white cardstock. Let dry.

2. Apply two coats of orange dye to star with a paint brush. Let dry in between coats.

3. Trim stamped cardstock to the size of each stamped design and mat onto orange cardstock using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.


4. Use Glue Dots® Glue Lines to attach quote to inside of card.


5. Gently wrap crepe paper ribbon around the second stamped design and secure to back of mat with Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

6. Apply painted wood star to design using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

7. Wrap baker's twine around design, tie a bow and secure to painted star with a Micro Glue Dot®.

8. Adhere star gems to design with Micro Glue Dots®.


9. Use Pop Up Glue Dots® to attach the finished design to front of card.

Stamping on a Scrapbook Layout + To Do Lists

I warned you it was messy. This layout started with a ScrapTiffany stamping challenge and I had a set of stamps that hadn't seen much crafting so I whipped them out of my stamp box and searched for the perfect photo.

About a year ago, I had an idea of doing a scrapbook page about my to do lists. I took the photo and never did anything with it until now.

I'm a todolistaholic. I jot my lists down on scrap paper, in a planner and type them up on my Blackberry's memo pad. And I get such wonderful satisfaction crossing things off my lists (or scribbling over top of them and deleting them from the memo pad). Then I can't wait to do something else so I can cross that off too. Without my to do lists, I probably wouldn't get anything done. I've even had to write "go pee" on my to do list when I was too busy to remember. (I know, that's bad.)

Anyway, I wanted to make the layout look like a to do list, full of color and mess. I think I was successful. Here is a close-up:

I'd like to add that I had tons of fun doing this layout and not worrying about being perfect. It was freedom. You should try it.

The Retweetables: Design Team Calls

How can Twitter help you become part of a creative design team? Here's a little story about how I used social media to land a spot on the Glue Dots® Design Team...

About a year ago, I purchased my first smartphone, a BlackBerry, and my Twitter life was forever changed. I was no longer tweeting random messages via text or the occasional 140 character bit from the web, I had UberTwitter on my phone. 

From the palm of my hand, I began connecting with other scrapbookers all over the world and eventually, I saw a tweet from Glue Dots announcing their search for a design team.

I applied (the messy layout above from my A Week in the Life scrapbook shows a rough draft of my application) and now I can call myself a Glue Dots® Dottess. Take it from me, it's possible to find your spot on a design team by being active on Twitter (or by reading this blog post about design team announcements on Twitter).
