The Retweetables: Design Team Calls

How can Twitter help you become part of a creative design team? Here's a little story about how I used social media to land a spot on the Glue Dots® Design Team...

About a year ago, I purchased my first smartphone, a BlackBerry, and my Twitter life was forever changed. I was no longer tweeting random messages via text or the occasional 140 character bit from the web, I had UberTwitter on my phone.

From the palm of my hand, I began connecting with other scrapbookers all over the world and eventually, I saw a tweet from Glue Dots announcing their search for a design team.

Page7

I applied (the messy layout above from my A Week in the Life scrapbook shows a rough draft of my application) and now I can call myself a Glue Dots® Dottess. Take it from me, it's possible to find your spot on a design team by being active on Twitter (or by reading this blog post about design team announcements on Twitter).

Are you ready to unleash your creativity? Check out these 8 design team calls that I spotted on Twitter:
Whew! That sounds like a lot of work if you're going to apply for each design team! Good luck!

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition (Part Three)

halloween Made with My Cool Signs.Net

When I think of Halloween, visions of pumpkins and Michael Meyers parade around in my head. I think of my childhood and eating candy until my belly ached, bobbing for apples, pumpkin seeds, haunted houses and oh, the decorations. It's hard to be uninspired at a time when it's okay to be someone you're not like a serial killer or a naughty nun (*giggle* I'm dressing up in a sexy nun costume this year). And it's super easy to be inspired by this week's #retweetable tweeters:

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition (Part Two)

This was me. A clown. Not one of my favorite costumes as a child, but to tell the truth, I chose this photo since the quality was better than the other ones I browsed through this morning. My mom created a HUGE scrapbook for me when I turned 30 and then filled a large photo album with all the other photos that couldn't fit into the scrapbook. So as I was looking through the album, I debated between the photos of me as a punk rocker, a witch with a green face and a few others. I like the photo I chose because it brings back memories of my blue tennis shoes with velcro, the big orange rocking chair that sat atop our red carpeting and the brick fireplace that I ran into right before I started kindergarten (and ended up with a horribly bruised ear). At least the carpet brings out my face paint and the red polka dots on my costume.

Since I'm on the subject of face paint and costumes, check out this week's #Retweetable Halloween tweeters:
Other noteworthy tweets that aren't Halloween related, but I had to share:

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition

Meet my serial killer daughter. Three years ago, my sweet little four-year-old wanted to dress up as Scream and I let her. Afterall, she refused to look at other costumes and insisted on this one. So, I HAD to make a scrapbook page. (I totally scraplifted the layout from a book I read in 2007. I wish I could remember which one, but that was three years ago and I didn't keep track of things like I do now. If you've seen a layout like this and know who created it, please let me know.)

Okay, back to the bloody layout. Let's open it up to see a "murder"...

(The pop-up element was not part of the scraplift. I had to figure that one out all on my own. Anyway...) Here's the terrifying and fictional story about a young girl, turned serial killer...

Note: After showing my daughter (now 7) my last blog post, Mix a little gore with a few screams, add a dash of sparkle and you have a scrapbook layout, she confessed that she didn't know that Scream was a serial killer. She thought that he just chased people around to scare them.

Since we are on the subject of Halloween, I thought I'd share some Halloweenie tweets with all of you. [I've also added a little commentary to the tweets.]

The Retweetables: Announcements & Photo Tips

My daughter's 6th birthday. Yes, she's wearing vampire teeth.
I can't believe she'll be 8-years-old in November!

What an exciting week! From birthdays to blog hops to contests galore, we all seem to be getting back into the groove of things since the start of a new school year. Of course, the most exciting moment of the week was when I saw tweet #3 and found out that I'm on the Glue Dots Design Team (read about that HERE). With all the recent excitement and craziness of getting ready for a craft show, I didn't spend as much time reading tweets, but I did see the ones below. I want to give Nancy Nally of ScrapbookUpdate.com a big shout out to say congratulations on six years of giving us crafty ladies (and gentlemen) the news we need to stay updated on the scrapbooking business. Thank you, Nancy!

The Retweetables: Getting messy, laughing and talking about fears

I never got the chance to "Trash the Dress" after my wedding almost ten years ago. Although my dress did get a little messy because of the rain prior to the outdoor ceremony and right after my husband and I said our vows, I didn't get it dirty on purpose. Even after a professional cleaning, there are a few mud stains on my wedding dress, but I don't mind because if I would have known about dress trashing back then, I definitely would have jumped in a lake, rolled around in the sand or splashed a rainbow of colored paint on my dress.

Since I didn't "Trash the Dress" back in 2000, I trashed it a couple weeks ago on the scrapbook layout above. It appears as though I'm in water (I hope) with a sunset (an old CD) in the background. I crazily and messily distressed and inked the edges of just about everything and added a few other details.

I decided to share this layout with you today because I spotted a few "messy" tweets (and others that are noteworthy) during the past week, which are now part of The Retweetables. You must say "The Retweetables" with a deep, yet energetic voice to really make it work and point your finger to the sky. I don't know why, but this is always in my mind when I do my #retweetable post.

Okay. Here they are:

The Retweetables: A recap and farewell

Tweeter. Twitterer. Tweet. Retweet. Mention. Reply. Direct Message. Hashtag. This is Twitter talk. If you are not familiar with Twitter or want to learn more about it, Mashable.com is a great source for all things social media and offers The Twitter Guide Book. So if this is your first time reading The Retweetables, my weekly posts about the crafty tweets I see and share with others, hello and goodbye...

WAIT! Goodbye? Yes. At least for a bit. School is almost out and I want to focus my attention on two beautiful girls and not so much on Twitter.

I've come to love Twitter for all the inspiration and information it has given to me and have been obsessively addicted to it, which was the reason why I started my weekly #retweetable posts. Unfortunately, my most of my Twitter time has been replaced with more family and scrapbooking time (the way it really should be. Afterall, I scrapbook for them. I don't tweet for them except for the nail polish collection tweets) and I just need a break. I still plan on writing blog posts to share my crafty things and will be on Twitter, but not to the point where I will see all the great tweets out there... and there are many, hence, the addiction.

You can still follow me as @ohiodanielle where I'm just me being me or as @ecoscrapbook where I tweet eco-friendly tweets :)

So, let's get to this #retweetable recap...

These #retweetable tweeters have been mentioned in my Twitter-related posts (April 2010 to present) and are also my #FollowFriday recommendations:

Note: The names with links were featured in my posts, while the names without links were mentioned in their tweets.

The Retweetables: Layout a Day in May (#LOAD)

May has been a scrappy month. Every single day this month, I have created a scrapbook layout, photographed it, uploaded it to Flickr and then added it to the Layout a Day gallery for LOAD. I have learned that I:
  • love to distress paper
  • have LOTS of supplies (and some are just plain ugly)
  • like to use black cardstock
  • scrap in a variety of page sizes depending on the photograph
  • love to look through all the photos and layouts on Flickr (talk about inspiration!)
  • need more time to make the things I want (handmade flowers and other goodies)
  • often leave the journaling as the last page element and I should try to focus on that more to tell the story behind the photos.
There are probably more things I could list here, but this post isn't just about me, it's about LOAD!! There are 152 members of May's LOAD and each one is very talented, creative and inspiring. Here are just a few:

Note: I tried using embedded tweets. It would have been super cool and made my Retweetables post so much easier. Yet, when I published the post, it got all screwy. I cleaned it up a bit, but I'm assuming it doesn't work well with Blogger. I apologize if today's Retweetables isn't formatted as usual. You can still try it out and it may work for you: http://media.twitter.com/blackbird-pie/
