The Retweetables: I Quit

this-is-the-end

I'm bored. No, not really. I'm never bored. I just don't have the drive to continue on with my weekly Twitter posts.

Maybe it's because I'm not on Twitter as much as I was when inspiration struck and The Retweetables was born. Or it could be that I would much rather be doing something else than blogging about Twitter.

Whatever it is, I think it's a good thing. I'm feeling stuck in a rut, but also sense a transitional phase coming on, yet I'm still not sure where it will lead me.

Any suggestions? What would you like to see here?
Comment below, tweet to me (@OhioDanielle) or email me (scrappindanielle at gmail dot com). I would love your input.

The Retweetables: Wedding & Anniversary Scrapbooks

"This is what marriage really means:
helping one another to reach the full status of being persons, responsible beings who do not run away from life."
- Paul Tournier, Swiss physician and writer

This week's Twitter post was inspired by a tweet from @DaisyTrail who shared a link to Wedding Scrapbook Ideas, an article at LoveToKnow. If you are thinking about taking on a wedding scrapbook in the future, I highly recommend reading this article before beginning your project. There are several useful tips about journaling, memorabilia and embellishments that will help you create a beautiful wedding scrapbook (and it was from this site that I found a link to the marriage quote above).

Another wedding-related tweet I spotted was by @ClarkMKane, who shared the article, How to make a wedding anniversary scrapbook. This tweet made me think of my ten year wedding anniversary. Over the past several months, I've gathered together all the photos of my husband and I before  we had children and now I'm waiting for the perfect time to start my love scrapbook (it's love since it's not a true wedding scrapbook or anniversary one, just our early years together).

I did, however, create a digital scrapbook layout in Picasa about what we did for our recent wedding anniversary. (We went to the Belamere Suites in Perrysburg, Ohio and had THE BEST TIME relaxing, swimming in our private indoor pool and a few other things that married couples do.  Anyway, we can't wait to go there again...a perfect getaway without really getting away.)

The Retweetables: Design Team Calls

How can Twitter help you become part of a creative design team? Here's a little story about how I used social media to land a spot on the Glue Dots® Design Team...

About a year ago, I purchased my first smartphone, a BlackBerry, and my Twitter life was forever changed. I was no longer tweeting random messages via text or the occasional 140 character bit from the web, I had UberTwitter on my phone.

From the palm of my hand, I began connecting with other scrapbookers all over the world and eventually, I saw a tweet from Glue Dots announcing their search for a design team.

Page7

I applied (the messy layout above from my A Week in the Life scrapbook shows a rough draft of my application) and now I can call myself a Glue Dots® Dottess. Take it from me, it's possible to find your spot on a design team by being active on Twitter (or by reading this blog post about design team announcements on Twitter).

Are you ready to unleash your creativity? Check out these 8 design team calls that I spotted on Twitter:
Whew! That sounds like a lot of work if you're going to apply for each design team! Good luck!

The Retweetables: Inspired by Halloween Tweets

"I've seen enough horror movies to know that any
weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly."
-Elizabeth, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)

Horror movies were a big part of my life growing up. My family and I watched scary, bloody, gorey and spine-tingling movies more than any other genre. Maybe that's why I love Halloween so much and why I've done four straight weeks of Halloween-themed Retweetable Tweeter posts (say that five time fast).

Twitter has been streaming with endless links to Halloween crafts, costumes and scary stories and without it, I probably wouldn't have seen a tweet about a pumpkin photo centerpiece that inspired me to do this:

The tweet was listed in my post, The Retweetables: Halloween Edition, and leads to the blog post Pumpkin Photo Centerpiece Holds Your Autumn Memories by Camille Dawn (and was featured on the AlphaMom blog). It's not often that I get inspired to change up my pumpkin carving routine, but when I checked out the post, I knew I wanted to hammer some nails into a pumpkin and decorate it with twine and photographs. Seriously, this was truly cool and unique and I had to do it. And since we bought three pumpkins, I was still able to carve one along with my oldest daughter, who gutted and carved a pumpkin all on her own for the very first time:

I used the fireworks setting on  my camera to capture this shot.
Another tweet from my first Halloween Edition (links to the The Scrap Shoppe blog post Spooky Chic Halloween Wreath) made me do this:

The skull was already sparkling with glitter, but I used Pop-Up Glue Dots® to add the green buttons for the eyes (I would have done red, but I didn't have any of the right size-even my oldest daughter told me I should have used red). Makes it look freakier, right? Yet, no matter what, I still have to hide the skull since it scares my youngest and she wouldn't even enter the room when it was displayed. (Kind of like how she's freaked out by masks. Read about that HERE.)

Were you inspired by any Halloween tweets this year? Share your thoughts below and if you made anything crafty, feel free to add your link.

I'm leaving you today with a link to a few laughs...and guess where I first heard about it?!? On Twitter, of course! Here's the latest #retweetable tweeter who tweeted about Halloween (let's try saying this one five times fast):
  • @Time: The 20 best Halloween costumes | http://su.pr/1tPQyg [Still don't know what you're going to be for Halloween? This may help if you have a sense of humor.]

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition (Part Three)

halloween Made with My Cool Signs.Net

When I think of Halloween, visions of pumpkins and Michael Meyers parade around in my head. I think of my childhood and eating candy until my belly ached, bobbing for apples, pumpkin seeds, haunted houses and oh, the decorations. It's hard to be uninspired at a time when it's okay to be someone you're not like a serial killer or a naughty nun (*giggle* I'm dressing up in a sexy nun costume this year). And it's super easy to be inspired by this week's #retweetable tweeters:

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition (Part Two)

This was me. A clown. Not one of my favorite costumes as a child, but to tell the truth, I chose this photo since the quality was better than the other ones I browsed through this morning. My mom created a HUGE scrapbook for me when I turned 30 and then filled a large photo album with all the other photos that couldn't fit into the scrapbook. So as I was looking through the album, I debated between the photos of me as a punk rocker, a witch with a green face and a few others. I like the photo I chose because it brings back memories of my blue tennis shoes with velcro, the big orange rocking chair that sat atop our red carpeting and the brick fireplace that I ran into right before I started kindergarten (and ended up with a horribly bruised ear). At least the carpet brings out my face paint and the red polka dots on my costume.

Since I'm on the subject of face paint and costumes, check out this week's #Retweetable Halloween tweeters:
Other noteworthy tweets that aren't Halloween related, but I had to share:

The Retweetables: Halloween Edition

Meet my serial killer daughter. Three years ago, my sweet little four-year-old wanted to dress up as Scream and I let her. Afterall, she refused to look at other costumes and insisted on this one. So, I HAD to make a scrapbook page. (I totally scraplifted the layout from a book I read in 2007. I wish I could remember which one, but that was three years ago and I didn't keep track of things like I do now. If you've seen a layout like this and know who created it, please let me know.)

Okay, back to the bloody layout. Let's open it up to see a "murder"...

(The pop-up element was not part of the scraplift. I had to figure that one out all on my own. Anyway...) Here's the terrifying and fictional story about a young girl, turned serial killer...

Note: After showing my daughter (now 7) my last blog post, Mix a little gore with a few screams, add a dash of sparkle and you have a scrapbook layout, she confessed that she didn't know that Scream was a serial killer. She thought that he just chased people around to scare them.

Since we are on the subject of Halloween, I thought I'd share some Halloweenie tweets with all of you. [I've also added a little commentary to the tweets.]

The Retweetables: Announcements & Photo Tips

My daughter's 6th birthday. Yes, she's wearing vampire teeth.
I can't believe she'll be 8-years-old in November!

What an exciting week! From birthdays to blog hops to contests galore, we all seem to be getting back into the groove of things since the start of a new school year. Of course, the most exciting moment of the week was when I saw tweet #3 and found out that I'm on the Glue Dots Design Team (read about that HERE). With all the recent excitement and craziness of getting ready for a craft show, I didn't spend as much time reading tweets, but I did see the ones below. I want to give Nancy Nally of ScrapbookUpdate.com a big shout out to say congratulations on six years of giving us crafty ladies (and gentlemen) the news we need to stay updated on the scrapbooking business. Thank you, Nancy!

The Retweetables: Getting messy, laughing and talking about fears

I never got the chance to "Trash the Dress" after my wedding almost ten years ago. Although my dress did get a little messy because of the rain prior to the outdoor ceremony and right after my husband and I said our vows, I didn't get it dirty on purpose. Even after a professional cleaning, there are a few mud stains on my wedding dress, but I don't mind because if I would have known about dress trashing back then, I definitely would have jumped in a lake, rolled around in the sand or splashed a rainbow of colored paint on my dress.

Since I didn't "Trash the Dress" back in 2000, I trashed it a couple weeks ago on the scrapbook layout above. It appears as though I'm in water (I hope) with a sunset (an old CD) in the background. I crazily and messily distressed and inked the edges of just about everything and added a few other details.

I decided to share this layout with you today because I spotted a few "messy" tweets (and others that are noteworthy) during the past week, which are now part of The Retweetables. You must say "The Retweetables" with a deep, yet energetic voice to really make it work and point your finger to the sky. I don't know why, but this is always in my mind when I do my #retweetable post.

Okay. Here they are:

The Retweetables: Back to School!

Posted by Picasa

It's that time of year again...Parent Vacation Time! Stay-at-home moms and dads get to pack up their children, send them to school and then sit back with a margarita in hand to read a book. A parent can dream, can't she?

Since it is a new school year and summer is practically over, I've decided to bring back my weekly #Retweetable post. Each week, I compile a little list of tweets that I spy on Twitter and share with you, my lovely readers, here on my blog. Most of the time, the Retweetables are fun and crafty individuals that like to do fun and crafty things and then tweet about them. Occasionally, I add in other Retweetables that tweet good stuff that may or may not interest you, but I find them useful, like this week's list...

1. @StaceyKann: Love these cute crafty ideas for folders & an everchanging scrapbook binder for DIY School Supplies from @mommyonashoe http://t.co/tgyDgGH

Can I call myself a digiscrapper?

I finally did it! This is my first digital scrapbook page and I created for free on Scrapblog (@Scrapblog). I have always wanted to try digital scrapbooking and randomly decided to do it one day after seeing this tweet from Crafting A Green World (@CAGW):

@CAGW: Have you entered to win yet? http://bit.ly/bRgmUC

I went to Scrapblog.com, browsed the products, added the free items to my tray, uploaded one of my photos and created the layout above...in 15 minutes! I tweeted about it, showed my family and felt proud about my little accomplishment.

In order to enter the contest to win a Scrapblog Keepsake Book, I had to leave a comment with the page link on Crafting A Green World's blog. And guess what?!? There is still time for you to enter!

So...GO NOW! Make a layout on Scrapblog, publish it and share the link on CAGW's blog.

And if you liked the butterfly photo, see more like it on my Flickr page. My daughters and I raised and released Painted Lady Butterflies this summer and I documented the entire process with my camera.

I won Marcal Small Steps seeds and now it's your turn!!!

If you follow me on Twitter (@ohiodanielle), you may have heard that I won seeds from Marcal Small Steps (@MarcalSmallStep). Yay for me! It was the first (and only) time I ever won anything on Twitter. A week after the contest, a large envelope arrived in the mail will an abundance of Mammoth Sunflower seeds. What a coincidence! I had already planned on planting this large type of sunflower for backyard privacy like I did in 2007:

These Mammoth Sunflowers grew TALL which is why I wanted to plant them again.

Sunflowers are happy flowers. They grow small and they grow tall, but no matter their size, sunflowers provide cheerful smiles and plentiful seeds. AND now YOU get a chance to experience your very own sunflower garden!

The first 6 people that comment on this post and leave their Twitter name or email address will win Marcal Small Steps Mammoth Sunflower Seeds!

Winners will receive two packets of Mammoth Grey Stripe Sunflower seeds! Good luck!

Layout Supplies Used: DCWV 70% Recycled Paper, Glue Dots, Fiskars Adhesive Tabs, brads, cardboard, Heidi Swapp Edge Distresser, AC Memory Marker.

9 days of sCRAPs: A Week In The Life (+2 days)

I first heard of A Week In The Life from a tweet that came from Ali Edwards:

@aliedwards: The Basics of Documenting A Week In Your Life http://bit.ly/d7ZMeu

I didn't originally plan on participating in this, but when I was reviewing tweets for my post, The Retweetables: Inspired to scrap, I decided to give it a try. I gave myself two practice days (April 17-18, 2010) and then began an eventful week.

I took the girls to the zoo, roller skated to Michael Jackson's Thriller, experimented with eco-friendly glue, turned 32, photographed a mouse alive and dead, celebrated Earth Day, wrote an article and blog posts, had a kid free weekend, visited my alma mater, cleaned my front porch, organized my closet and ran in my first 5K. I'm always a busy body, but this week (plus two days) was like no other!

The album I created is totally old school where I just took everything and threw it together. It is perfectly imperfect scraps of my week with photos taken from my Blackberry (well, the cell phone thing isn't old school). I printed off tweets, added my to do lists, used rough drafts as background paper and doodled like I would if I was talking on the phone.

This turned into a piece of me. This album was me and I want it to be something that my girls can learn from as they grow older and share with their own children one day. I used stickers with inspirational words and quotes. I jotted down little secrets of life and pieces of knowledge that I hope my girls will learn from and utilize in their daily lives. I can only imagine what they will think of Twitter and blog posts thirty years from now.

I love the look of a messy old school scrapbook with doodles and scraps of life. This project showed me that I lead an interesting life at times and I'm glad I was able to document my tweets and blog posts.

To view the entire scrapbook, go to my Flickr page and see all 17 pages of scraps.

Supplies used:

Cosmo Cricket Journaling Cards

The Retweetables: A recap and farewell

Tweeter. Twitterer. Tweet. Retweet. Mention. Reply. Direct Message. Hashtag. This is Twitter talk. If you are not familiar with Twitter or want to learn more about it, Mashable.com is a great source for all things social media and offers The Twitter Guide Book. So if this is your first time reading The Retweetables, my weekly posts about the crafty tweets I see and share with others, hello and goodbye...

WAIT! Goodbye? Yes. At least for a bit. School is almost out and I want to focus my attention on two beautiful girls and not so much on Twitter.

I've come to love Twitter for all the inspiration and information it has given to me and have been obsessively addicted to it, which was the reason why I started my weekly #retweetable posts. Unfortunately, my most of my Twitter time has been replaced with more family and scrapbooking time (the way it really should be. Afterall, I scrapbook for them. I don't tweet for them except for the nail polish collection tweets) and I just need a break. I still plan on writing blog posts to share my crafty things and will be on Twitter, but not to the point where I will see all the great tweets out there... and there are many, hence, the addiction.

You can still follow me as @ohiodanielle where I'm just me being me or as @ecoscrapbook where I tweet eco-friendly tweets :)

So, let's get to this #retweetable recap...

These #retweetable tweeters have been mentioned in my Twitter-related posts (April 2010 to present) and are also my #FollowFriday recommendations:

Note: The names with links were featured in my posts, while the names without links were mentioned in their tweets.
